Caring For Your New Puppy

Caring for your new puppy can be challenging. Before you bring your puppy home, make sure you have already taken care of some very important things.

Giant Bean Bag

Make sure you have checked the house and yard for hazards.

Giant Bean Bag

Hide electrical cords behind furniture.

Pick up anything you don't want eaten.

Hide cleaning products,pesticides,insecticides,anti-freeze, and rat and snail baits.

Check to make sure the yard is enclosed completely.Look for loose boards and clearance under fences.

Close off pools or ponds.

You should prepare a place that will be just for him. One of the best investments you can make is to purchase a crate. It will greatly ease the process of house breaking, and it will give you a safe place to leave him when you can't watch him. You will want to protect your home from puppy, and puppy from the home. The crate should be big enough for him now and later.

If he is a large breed dog and will grow quickly you will probably need to block off part of the crate while he is small. A crate shouldn't be too big or it defeats one of the main purposes, which is to work with his instincts of not wanting to soil where he sleeps. If he can get far away from an 'accident' he will have little reason to 'hold it' for very long.

His crate should always be a happy place to be. You can give him treats there, feed him, give him favorite toys in there. This should NEVER be a place he's put when scolded. A very young puppy might benefit from an alarm clock wrapped in a towel, or a warm bean bag to curl up by. Just make sure he won't chew on anything that is in his bed.

There will be plenty of things that you won't want the puppy to do, so make sure you have plenty of things around that it is alright for the puppy to do. There should be all kinds of toys and chew things available. Stay away from rubber toys that are easy to chew up and swallow. They pose a threat if ingested. Plush squeek toys are much more advisable, as well as tennis balls, tug toys, and nylon bones...but not rawhide, this also can create huge problems when swallowed.

You should schedule a first puppy exam within a few days of bringing your puppy home. You will want to have him checked over to make sure he is healthy and free from congenital defects. The veterinarian will look for juvenile cataracts, hernias, a cleft palate, deformities, heart murmurs, parasites, and general body condition. These are things you want to rule out right away.

If your puppy has a clean bill of health you will probably start him into his series of vaccines and deworming at this time, depending on his age. Puppy should have his first set at six weeks old and will continue about every three to four weeks until he gets his rabies shot at four months old. Be sure to follow the schedule as closely as you can, a break in vaccines can render him much more susceptible to viruses as his immunity will be compromised.

Your puppy should NOT go out in public until he has completed his vaccines. Parks or anywhere other animals might go are potential hazards as viruses will be prevelant.

Deworming is also a very important part of the necessary schedule of things to do. 98% of all puppies are born with intestinal parasites, and you probably won't see them so don't be fooled. Intestinal parasites create many problems such as malnutrition, a supressed immune system and poor body condition. They will not allow him to grow well or be very healthy so be sure to deworm him at least two times, two weeks apart.

Unless you plan to show the puppy, you also need to schedule either HER spay or HIS neuter by the time the puppy is six months old. There are serious medical and behavioral concerns that associated with un-altered dogs. Problems range from aggresion and territorial marking to ovarian, mammary, uterine,or prostate cancer. Pyometra is another dangerous condition which effects un-spayed female dogs. These are potentially fatal and completely avoidable conditions so be sure you make these are some things you keep from happening.

Feeding is another big question that new owners have. The best plan is to either continue with what the breeder was feeding or slowly wean to a high quality food of your choice. Make sure you look for one that is formulated for puppies, and look for quality. Pet stores are usually good places to look, avoid the grocery store aisle. A young puppy should eat 3-4 times a day for the first couple of months, and decrease to twice by six or eight months.

He should be allowed to eat about as much as he wants in 10- 15 minutes at a time. Don't leave left over food down. It will attract animals or bugs, and it will spoil. Make sure puppy eats on a regular schedule so you can monitor his appetite. It is often the first thing to go if he gets sick. Don't just leave food out.

There are often special conditions to consider with giant breeds of dog and with toy breeds of dog, make sure you avoid adding anything to their diet unless you clear it with the vet first. Also, when you decide on a food, stick to it, changing his diet can wreak havoc on his digestive system.

Mostly, remember enjoy him. There will be plenty of time to learn all the rules. Be consistent with him and set clear expectations but remember he is a baby and it will take time. Love him, play with him, talk to him and make sure he knows he's special. He will always have your back.

Build Your Youth Ministry The Inflatable Way!

As youth group directors know, it can be a tough job to teach, inspire, guide, mentor and reward the good behavior in today's youth. Whether you're a youth pastor or a youth organization director, it can be challenging to successfully attract and keep the targeted youth in your area or even reward existing members. To get and to keep their attention, you'll need a high level of interest, interactive entertainment and the ability to associate something FUN with your church or organization.

Giant Bean Bag

Whether it's a small youth event or a huge community festival-fund raiser, you want to offer fun activities that keep the youth wanting more! Inflatable games and other interactive items offer that cutting edge interactive entertainment experience. Games like the Big Glove boxing, Sumo Wrestling suits, Gladiator Jousting, Bungee Runs, Giant Slides, Mechanical Rides are something that the average youth doesn't have access to unless it's at a fair or festival. Using this type of safe yet challenging equipment is something that can attract youth from all around your area. Are you planning a lock in? How about a Halloween Alternative Event? Or perhaps a New Year's Eve Party? The object of all these type of events is not only to offer safe, Christian alternatives to outside events, but also to show that being part of a Christian Youth Group is anything but boring. There are two ways to offer inflatables and interactives to your youth. Most organizations start out by renting their equipment. As you're looking for a company to help you with your youth ministry, you'll want to ask some specific questions!

Giant Bean Bag

Does the Company Specialize in these types of activities?Do they have clean cut representatives that will help at your event if necessaryCan they be flexible to your needs? (Pick up and Delivery at your needed times)Do they offer a discount to Christian Youth organizations? Are they fully insured? Will they work with your budget?

These questions and others can help you find the right company for your organization. You'll also want to find out what kind of equipment they have to offer. You'll be looking for bright colorful equipment and a fairly large assortment of games. Since the average youth tends to want to try different things, it's important to be able to offer different items for each event. your youth organization grows larger or if you have the opportunity to share equipment with other organizations, you might want to consider purchasing your own equipment. Many times this offers an opportunity to keep your costs down while actually helping other youth organizations with their ministry. Many Youth Ministers have found that owning their own inflatables not only gave them a great tool to work with their youth ministry, but also a means of working with other groups in the area. Researching interactives for your ministry can be a fun and educational experience. Along with company websites, you can also find Blogs and even Squidoo sites that will help you with your plans. If you try inflatables and other interactive games to boost your youth ministry, you'll be thrilled with your results, and so will your youth!

Creating Luxury Party Bags For a Children's Party

Most children love to have a large and wonderful birthday party. Having all of their friends in one place with them as the centre of attention is many children's dream. Therefore, as it only happens once a year, why not go all out and have a luxury birthday party with a range of items and accessories, including a luxury party bag for each and every child to take home with them?

Giant Bean Bag

The first thing to note when creating luxury party bags is that they need not cost a fortune. As would be expected, these party bags will generally cost more than standard or traditional party bags, but there is often no need to spend vast amounts of money.

Giant Bean Bag

It should be remembered that above all, the party bags are for children and as children's hobbies and interests change regularly, what they like one day could be something they wouldn't even consider liking the next. Due to this reason, luxury party bags should revolve around quality and not quantity, with lots of time and planning taken to ensure the party bag is one that will be well liked by the child.

Of the many aspects that form a luxury party bag, choosing the actual bag itself can be the one factor that makes the party bag one of luxury. From organic Hessian bags through to hand woven cotton, the bag should stand out from the crowd and be able to be used again and again, ensuring maximum usability.

Deciding on what is included within the bag depends entirely on the type of party and the interests of the children. For example, if the party were of a prince and princess theme, the girls could receive a soft silk hand bag filled with make-up and jewelery, whilst the boys could receive a robust satchel or draw-string bag that includes action figures and related games. The contents of the bag rely heavily on how the party is themed, but it should be remembered overall that quality rules over quantity every time.

Las Vegas Mayor: Pro Team in Southern Nevada a 'Guarantee'

Have you ever imagined what it would be like to attend a Monday Night Football game live in Las Vegas? What would the NBA or NHL playoff experience bring to 'Sin City'? Or how about an Opening Day MLB start in the desert?

Giant Bean Bag

I can tell you exactly what it would be like. The back of your game ticket would be a scratch-off lottery game for lap dances and convertibles. There would be brilliantly lit slot machines in the bathroom stalls. At halftime, an opposing fan would be lowered into a cage and fed to a pair of white Bengal tigers. The vendors would be seven-foot mutants from Eastern Europe and the cheerleaders would be South American vixens. There would be midgets and clowns and a giant money tree that one lucky fan would get to shake at each home game.

Giant Bean Bag

It would be beautiful.

Las Vegas and a professional sports team are a natural fit. There are few things as American as the cultish pride, monetary excess and choreographed violence involved in pro athletics in this country. It's in our blood. It's our birthright. And America's Playground is the only city in the country that could possibly match that sort of frenzy and bacchanalia stride-for-stride.

The population of Las Vegas has tripled over the course of the last 20 years to 1.8 million, and it remains one of the fastest-growing cities in the country. Its economy pumps out a staggering billion annually, with nearly 38 million tourists blowing through town each year and contributing their mortgage/retirement/child's college fund to that honey pot. If we assume three-fifths of all Las Vegas visitors are sports fans - a measurement the Founding Fathers would approve - that would yield a pool of roughly 24 million fans to draw from.

"I've said before that just like Dallas is America's Team, I truly think that a team in Las Vegas would be the World's Team," Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman said. "We really have the type of cosmopolitan people out here that would embrace the hometown team."

Goodman is an outspoken, martini-swilling, showgirl-loving Philadelphia native and the ace in the hole for the city's bid for pro sports. He is disarmingly honest, and has the guile and zeal one would expect from an attorney who used to defend such ruthless mobsters as Meyer Lansky and Anthony Spilotro. Goodman is on record in support of canings and thumb amputations as punishment, and has shown up in public surrounded by Elvis impersonators. Would you bet against him?

Goodman has lobbied and prodded owners and commissioners in all major sports to relocate or expand to his orgiastic oasis. Vegas currently hosts major events in boxing, NASCAR, Arena Football, Triple-A baseball and tennis. Also, the city locked up a bid to host the 2007 NBA All-Star Game. They will be the first non-NBA city to do so.

With the recent financial difficulties of pro sports franchises in Florida, Portland, Seattle, San Diego and New Orleans, the number of potential suitors for Las Vegas seems to be at its pinnacle. Goodman said that discussions have been "real hot" with the NHL.

However, not everyone shares his optimism.

"I believe Las Vegas will not be seriously considered until someone steps up and builds a new arena to host a team," said Jay Kornegay, executive director of the sportsbook at the Las Vegas Hilton. "Right now it seems like Las Vegas is just being used as a pawn for some owners to strike deals around the country."

Sin City's greatest strength is also its greatest weakness when it comes to seducing a team into its hypnotic trance. The reason there isn't a team in Las Vegas already has little to do with being the 47th ranked television market, its lack of a state-of-the-art arena or its graveyard of defunct pro franchises since 1976. No, Las Vegas doesn't have a team today because it permits legalized gambling and is seen by some as a modern Sodom and Gomorrah.

It's true that gambling and hedonism are at the soul of Las Vegas. But that's what gives it such a unique relationship with Sports. Vegas is Switzerland with slot machines. The hometown loyalty is to the point spread and every precious edge that she provides. People there are fans of everyone and no one, with allegiance based on whoever provides the best opportunity for a payday. Sports fans in Las Vegas are mercenaries, bounty hunters and war profiteers. And it's unlikely that their attitude will ever change.

That is what strikes Fear into the rulers of the major sports. They are afraid of point-shaving or players consorting with criminal elements. They are scared of anything that could be viewed as a conflict of interest and their hard-line stance against gambling is done in an effort to preserve the integrity of the game. (That is, the integrity remaining after sham officiating, performance enhancing drugs and uneven distribution of wealth.)

Needless to say, this stance by owners and executives is the height of hypocrisy. Goodman stated that the NFL's public actions and outward opposition to gambling is "the most disingenuous reasoning" that he'd ever heard. He also believes there's already illegal gambling at live sporting events in most other sports.

"There's more bets taken during an NBA basketball game at Madison Square Garden then there is on that game here," Goodman said. "Think about it, you going to sit around watching 10 guys run up and down the court for two hours without some money going around? I didn't think so."

For my money, the owners and execs are the real criminals. They are vicious and vile, feasting on the flesh of children and old people. Just look at Al Davis. They loot the public treasury for a new stadium. They charge .50 for a beer. They claim their low-rent, second-rate organizations are perpetually "rebuilding". They draft emotionally unstable and intellectually shallow children, get them hopped up on Potential and mescaline and turn them loose on society. Then the players are cut loose after they become multiple felons.

It's inconceivable that owners and league executives can pass judgment on Las Vegas or legalized professional gambling on the basis of some moral authority. They have more blood on their hands than most, and since they wouldn't resist the urges of greed and temptation they don't expect anyone else to either.

"They don't realize the Nevada sports books and the league are on the same side," Kornegay said. "We both want 'true' games. If anyone gets hurt on a crooked game it's the sports books. This is why we have so many policies, regulations and procedures to make sure the games stay true."

"Someday they will realize that they need us a lot more than we need them," Goodman said of sports leagues.

The NHL and MLB have stated that if Las Vegas was awarded a franchise the casinos and books would have to agree not to take bets on the home team. This arrangement was a condition of hosting the NBA All-Star Game, and had been in place for UNLV and Nevada athletics until recently. The NBA has said that the books would have to agree not to take any action on any NBA games - period - before Las Vegas would be given its own team.

Over .5 billion was gambled through legal channels in Las Vegas in 2005. Nearly 0 million of that was on the NBA. Those are high stakes for casino owners and operators, especially since they form the backbone of the local economy but stand to gain little from the presence of a pro team. Also, what if Las Vegas were awarded an MLB team and it made the World Series, or if they got an NFL team and it played in the Super Bowl? There would be riots in the street and potentially billions of dollars lost.

Should Las Vegas have a pro sports team? Could it even handle one? We will see. But when asked what the odds of Las Vegas having a pro franchise by 2010 were, Goodman didn't hesitate: "It's a guarantee."

Hmm. A guarantee in Vegas? If you're willing to buy that, I'm willing to bet that you'll be welcome in Sin City anytime.

Toys Take Up the Fun

Toys are everywhere! They come in all shapes, sizes, and brands. Most toys are created to provide pure enjoyment for children while others are made to help stimulate a child's mind in a fun way. In any case, toys are a great way to keep a youngster occupied.

Giant Bean Bag

Some of the most popular toys out on the market these days are action figures and Barbie dolls. Some action figures are based on movies that have recently hit the theatres. For example, one award winning action figure is The Incredible Hulk, which is a movie that came on June 13th, 2008. Barbie dolls have been around for over 49 years and they have still been running strong! There is a Barbie for each little girl's fantasy. The joy of Barbie is that you can dress her up and match her clothes with accessories sold separately. Barbie's hair is also another attraction as it comes long and pliable so that little girls can arrange and decorate her hair as they please.

Giant Bean Bag

Toys don't necessarily have to be action figures or dolls. They can even be audio books. No, audio books are not just for adults. They help children appreciate stories that are heard as well as those written on paper. Since a lot of audio books include a cast of readers as well as sound effects, it is easy for even the younger children to get caught up in the excitement of the story as it is being told.

Educational toys include LeapFrog and Fisher-Price products. Fisher-Price has been providing fun education for children everywhere since 1930. Some brands under this name are Disney, Sesame Street, Barney, Dora the Explorer, and See 'n Say. If you can stir up a child's love of learning when they are young, that drive to learn new and interesting things will stay with him or her right into adulthood. Keep in mind, not all learning has to take place in a formal environment. Of course, school is important, but we should be open to learning new things in a variety of settings.

Whether it be a toy that was made for all fun and games or a toy that was made for teaching a child new things, you can't go wrong. Toys are a great gift for a kid of any age and for any occasion. Suppose it is little Mike's 6th birthday. What ever should you get him? A toy airplane is not a bad idea at all! But what about little Sara? What should you get her for Christmas? Every little girl with their very own dollhouse would hold it dear to their hearts.

Inflated Profits From Inflated Ice Cream

How happy would parents be to discover that the smooth, whipped confections sold from seaside vans are not the iced dairy cream of our desire but made from frozen, whipped palm oil, artificially emulsified, preserved and flavoured? Ice cream has come a long way from the original syrupy sherbets of the Middle East - especially in Britain, where the real cream element has been compromised by some clever chemical additions.

Giant Bean Bag

According to an article in The Telegraph, one of the first jobs undertaken by a young Margaret Thatcher in her father's shop was to discover ways to 'inflate' ice cream with air and boost its value. With supermarkets forcing producers to cut their costs, some ingenious producers have added up to 250 per cent air by volume to their ice creams.

Giant Bean Bag

Fat chances

In pots marked 'ice cream', any fat that is not dairy cream or milk can simply be marked 'vegetable fat'. Consequently, manufacturers use cheap fats, such as highly saturated palm kernel oil. This is most commonly used in the whipped ice cream sold from vans. Ingredients must be listed in order of quantity - which can often include water. In the big world of business, each substitution of a fresh product by a cheaper one adds to the bottom line. Few ingredients are cheaper than water, added to a product already bulked up by air.

Added colourings, especially chemical reds and oranges, have been linked with hyperactivity in children. Starches may be a problem for the gluten-allergic but beetroot-based reds are fine and cane sugar is preferable to other sugars. Water and stabilisers are added to preserve it, together with emulsifiers to help 'fix' the fat.

Egg yolks are used in traditional mixes to emulsify. They also aid texture and flavour. Despite some consumers concerns, it is almost impossible to suffer from salmonella poisoning from the egg yolks or brucellosis from the milk; all ingredients are pasteurised to kill bacteria.

Commercial ice creams contain cheaper glycerides, emulsifiers made from partially hydrogenated fat. Dairy fat is healthier. Those made with sheep, goat or buffalo milk will always be labelled as such, although can be hard to source.

If looked after properly and put away carefully and quickly after use, ice cream will keep for a long time. In the case of dairy ice cream, the fewer artificial additives there are, the shorter the freezer shelf life will be. In order to thicken the water in the milk and stop the formation of ice crystals, most manufacturers add polysaccharide stabilisers. These are the additives that make some ice creams seem chewy.

Gelatine is a more natural alternative, but because it is animal-based, makers prefer to use plant-based gums, such as guar gum, extracted from the guar bean or the more natural locust bean gum made from carob beans. Carrageenan, a red seaweed-derived thickener, is the best natural alternative.

Why buy local artisan ice cream?

All good, local, ice cream manufacturers will only use liquid milk and cream, sugars and often egg yolks. The sourcing of the ingredients will be localised so as to help protect local farmers and local jobs, and it will certainly taste much better than the mass-produced alternatives. Usually, there is little difference in price, as the artisan producers will deliver their own ice cream, avoiding distributors and wholesaler costs. Traceability is all important to today's consumer who can see the local cows, fruit trees or plants that help produce an ice cream that's healthier, tastier and more ethical.

Big companies use clever accountants and these bean-counters constantly look at ways to improve their bottom line through substituting natural products by cheaper chemicals. More worryingly, is the disregard towards the consumer, whose taste buds are assumed to be half dead when eating and comparing a once mighty product that has undergone a bean-counter's axe.

Subtle changes are hard to detect but over a period of time, the consumer is no longer fooled and often turns to another brand in search of the original quality. In the meanwhile, vast profits have been accumulated, sales have soared and the bean-counter is made CEO. Nevertheless, the seeds are then sown for the gradual erosion of the perception of that particular brand in the eyes of its followers.

The Secret of Survival

What should a thrusting, upwardly mobile company do? The answer is stick to its guns. Do not sell one's soul to the supermarkets and refuse to discount one's product to garner ever greater sales. Many a company has lost its crown in the name of volume and some searching on the part of the consumer for a quality product is no bad thing. The war between Tyrrell's Crisps and Tesco and the forcing of the giant supermarket to remove bags purchased on the grey market from its shelves was a case in point. The loss in profits by refusing to sell to a supermarket was far outweighed by the free publicity gained.

So keep true to the philosophy of quality over quantity, keep to quality ice cream recipes and one cannot go wrong; the slippery road down to palm oil is a dangerous game and not one that is likely to lick the opposition in the war of the ice creams. Now the secrets of the multi-nationals are out, would any of us touch a seaside van or would we search for a local supplier of the 'real thing'? The choice is yours.

Faster Reflexes: Get the Edge in Tennis, Martial Arts, Soccer Goalies, & More

Cat Like Reflex Training Methods

Giant Bean Bag

It can go with out saying that whatever your sport, improved reaction time & response time a.k.a. reflex speed will be vital. Any & even the slightest improvements in this skill can have astonishing results on your game. Think about it for a moment... even if you could shoot, move, and jump like MJ you'd still be at his mercy if you didn't have his eyes. Meaning react unexpectedly, see defenders before they move, & beat the head fakes. Again this carries over to most every sport imaginable. Take the boxer, his whole game, the entire fight is react as fast as possible before your opponent does & don't get faked out!

Giant Bean Bag

Before we get started I want to clarify a couple things. There are 3 phases of speed. 1) Reaction time: This is the perception of an attack, or rather the interval between stimulus and the beginning of response. 2) Response time: This is the time it takes to choose an appropriate response to the initiation of the actual movement. 3) And finally, movement-speed. Quite simply how quick your counter punch is or how fast your body moves getting out of the way of trouble, etc. You will notice some of these examples seem geared more towards martial artist and there methods of training but not to worry you'll also see how the can be adapted to any sport.

Reaction & Recognition

Woods Running: I can't think of an easier drill to start doing that requires no training partners or equipment for enhancing coordination & reflex speed. All that is needed is a little bit of nature, so go to a local park with a batch of thick untamed woods, shrubs, ditches, canals and other natural obstacles. What makes this a Grand exercise is that you have to react with your body in very unpredictable ways, uneven footing, while making cuts, ducks, jumps, bobs, & shuffling of the feet. The key to a successful session is RUN FAST! Yes the faster you run the harder adapting will be. Interestingly enough your mind will be so preoccupied with this live video game that you won't even notice how winded your getting! You can make this drill harder in a couple simple ways. 1) Try putting on an eye patch. This creates a major deficit in depth perception. 2) Try this wearing sunglasses, giving you less distance vision in a shady wooded area. 3) Simply add ankle weights, that will throw off your innate sense of timing.

Dodge Ball: "If you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a ball"-Patches O'Houlihan. And if you can dodge a dodgeball the way I'm going to challenge you to, you'll evade anything that's slower than a bullet! So to start you need a partner to be a thrower. You can switch up to make it fun & interesting for both of you. Begin at about 10' apart and use a soft rubber or foam ball. Start slow, then as you get better have the pitcher increase his velocity & get closer. Here's a short list of some variables you should use to continually make dodgeball more challenging & fun. 1) Use multiple throwers. 2) Start with eyes closed and have the pitcher cue you before he throws. 3) Thrower can disguise his toss with "feints". 4) Color code balls: Red ball = catch, blue = dodge, green = strike. These force you to recognize as well as react.

Solo Wall Bounce: Stand in front of a wall with any kind of ball that bounces. Throw and catch. Make this more difficult by: increasing your velocity, standing closer to the wall, progressing to smaller balls, switching catch/throw hands, and starting facing away from the wall, throwing the ball over your shoulder then turning around at the sound of it hitting the wall. Jump USA sells a "reaction" ball that looks like an odd, uneven bouncing ball that can go in any given direction. These sell for about . Pick one up after you've mastered my previous methods of bouncing!

Response Times

Once you've learned how to appropriately identify stimulus and speed up the recognition, or need to do something, the next phase of training deals with programming your nervous system with a proper response. This will just as easily improve your overall speed. If you see things even before they happen what good is it if your body clumsily tries to move? You need to have a storehouse of nervous "memory" responses that are quick, smooth, & graceful.

Balloon Kicks: This exercise is mostly a coordination builder but it is so fun I had to throw it in. It will improve timing, accuracy and responsiveness quickly without seeming tedious at all. Blow up a balloon and go into a room that has numerous natural obstacles like chairs, stools, counters, & coffee tables. If you're so inclined, get some cones and small objects to clutter the floor. Now, start kicking the balloon with the purpose of not letting it touch the floor. Kick, kick, kick! If It drops you lose. Time your self to see how long you can last each session.

Side Shuffles: Here one your football & basketball coaches wish they knew. If you have access to a treadmill you will make agility leaps & bounds. You are certainly going to look ridiculous doing this but that's ok, my theory is the more embarrassing your training is the better it works! Hey I was training with jumpsoles back when they first hit the scene, before they were the commodity everyone knows them as. Now picture this skinny 17 year old Florida boy sprinting up and down blacktops in Giant horseshoe like strap-ons. Yeah I got funny looks! So will you. Anyway what you need to do is crank that machine up to 5mph to start and gallop if you will, sideways trying to gradually increase the speed to your limit. Switch sides. Next slow it back down to 5mph and try cross-stepping front & back. See what your threshold is in terms of mph. Your objective is a slight increase each session. Final set is backpedaling. Better start slower than the 5, this ones harder. The treadmill is necessary because if forces a pace. Next time some ball hog tries to take you on a dribble he'll have another thing coming!

Visual Speed & Acuity

Video Games: This is a perfect way to enhance response action, and visual perception all while having fun! You don't need to go out and purchase a 0 X-box, a simple Gameboy to carry around for the next time your waiting to renew your plates or visit the dentist s fine. Stay away from the Mrs. Pac-man that you've mastered ages ago. Try something new & challenging, change-up every other time you play to keep it unpredictable! I recommend 2 days a week for 30 minutes a little video gaming. It's training!

Peripheral Driver: Not much need to go into the importance of side vision awareness & expansion, its usefulness carries over to every sports activity imaginable. You need to know if a potential defender or tackle is just out of your sight coming up the sides of your vision. Here is a great way to develop your P.V. while driving. Next time you're on the road try to be consciously aware when you catch a glimpse of a vehicle in the corner of your eye. Call out the color or make if you can. Gradually you'll be noticing them much sooner. The real trick is jut remembering to practice it when you get in the car so my suggestion is to write it on the rear view with dry erase.

Eye Accommodation: Or rather the ability for you eyes to quickly adjust from focusing on objects close to far. Rapid adjustments in depth perception, is a skill that can be developed quickly & easily. This will play a key role in how well you can respond. If a fist is flying at your face you need to be able to zoom in before you can gauge an appropriate counter move. Try these 2 simple drills once daily. Hold a pen out at arms length, now look across the room about 20 ft away. Shift your focus from a far object, then back to the pen several times quickly. Rest and repeat, changing the proximity of the pen (closer to your face) every couple of sets. This is known as shifting. The next drill is called figure 8's. Hold your thumb up at arms length & begin moving it in yes, figure 8's. While you're doing this also bring your thumb closer & further from the face a well as vary the speed at which your thumb moves every 10 seconds.

There I scratched (meowch!) the surface of what can be done to start your transformation from slow to whoa! Let me close by saying a lot has to do with what your tying your brain up with at the moment. So put all those pesky thoughts away during your next game, & just BE THERE! Absorb yourself in your tactile senses just like a feline would! There's way more secrets i'll reveal another time like better drills, brain sharpeners, simple tricks to play, drills you can do while watching TV, and even supplements that can improve your reflex speed immediately! In the mean time give these examples a try a couple days a week & in as little as 2 weeks you will be quite impressed with the progress!

The Secret to Athletic Success

Why is it that one day we can hit every ball right down the middle, or pick up every frame and the next day, or game, we can hardly keep it on the fairway or in the lane? What causes athletic inconsistency? What is the secret to athletic success?

Giant Bean Bag

When you talk to professional athletes they speak of being in the zone when performing at a high level. If you talk to a running back he'll explain how everyone seemed to move in slow motion and that the hole seemed wide enough to drive a truck through. A tennis player might tell us she could see the spin of the ball and could anticipate exactly where her opponent was going to hit it. A bowler might say he was in the groove. What is this zone that these athletes describe and how do we get into it?

Giant Bean Bag

Before we talk about getting into this zone let's talk about the realities of athletics. Most likely you are not a professional athlete. You are probably a regular person that has lots of interests besides bowling, basketball or whatever your chosen sport(s) happen to be. So if you aren't a professional athlete, spending hundreds of hours a year at your profession, you probably aren't going to hit scratch golf every time you go out or become a karate champion, but you may become your club champion and you may win a local tournament or two. In other words you can become the best athlete possible depending on the time you choose to invest in your sport. So get over trying to be a pro, unless you have the time to invest to play at that level, and decide to develop your abilities to the level where you both play your best, and enjoy every moment you play.

The 5 Steps to Athletic Success

1. Get a Coach - Few people who participate in athletic activities actually get instruction. For example the number of people who actually get lessons from a pro golfer over their lifetimes is about eleven percent. The number of people that get training from a personal trainer at a gym is about the same. What is the percentage of people that actually take tennis lessons? You might have guessed, it's about the same.

It would be nice if all we had to do is watch someone else and be able to play a sport well, but for most of us this is just not a reality. Even the pros have coaches. Golfing sensation Tiger Woods has Hank Haney. Steffi Graf had her father Peter. Even the greatest boxer of all time, Muhammad Ali, had Angelo Dundee. All the greats have coaches and so should you.

In order to play any sport well you need to learn the basics; how to maximize your exercises, place your body, kick your leg, roll the ball, etc. Coaches can shortcut the time it takes to become proficient at any sport while reducing your chance of injury due to incorrect form. Get a coach.

2. Practice - How did you learn to walk? You practiced. After you crawled around for a while you decided to walk and hang on to the furniture. Then you stumbled around, bumping your head and bottom until you could walk. If you would have laid in your crib and only watched people walk you would have never learned how.

The same goes for playing a sport. You cannot sit watching Tiger Woods on TV, never going to the driving range and expect to be able to play on the pro circuit. You won't be able to watch old Bruce Lee movies and become a black belt. And you won't be able to become a marathon runner by walking a mile every few days. For any sport you need to learn the rules, practice the basic techniques of the game and develop your body to be able to play the sport comfortably.

3. Set a Goal - Human beings are goal seeking mechanisms. In order to achieve you need to be able to have something to reach for, something tangible. If you want to improve your golf game you need to set a tangible goal of decreasing your score to 80. If you want to bowl better you need to set a goal to increase your score to an average of 180. If you want to be invited to body building contests you need to set a goal of less than 10 percent body fat. Now these may not be your goals but they are real goals, goals that you can shoot for and achieve. You see the one thing that all achievers do is set goals. We become better when we have a goal to focus on.

4. Get Feedback - We all need feedback. One place we'll get good feedback is from our coach. As we already talked about, feedback from someone who has dedicated their life to helping others improve in their chosen sport is well worth the expense. We can also get feedback from others in the sport that are just a little further along the path than we are. In fact, this can sometimes be priceless because they are acutely aware of what we are going through as a result of having recently going through what you are currently going through. So find a coach and find some people that are just a little bit better than you and ask for their advice. Not only will they be happy to give it, you will learn some great shortcuts toward mastering your sport.

5. Learn the Mental Game - In 1989 when questioned about tennis greats, Chris Evert told Sports Illustrated, "With me, the mental part of the game was always stronger than the physical. Martina was always known for the physical aspects of her game. Steffi has both."

Chris Evert knew that the mental game was paramount. So do all top athletes. So how do you improve the mental game? First you need to overcome negative programming. Get over what you can't do. Like Henry Ford said once, "If you think you can you can and if you think you can't you can't." Although we have learned to do a number of very complex things in our lives, from walking, to writing, from speaking to eating with a knife, fork and spoon, we often feel that we can't play a sport well. We say to ourselves, "I'm just not good enough". Just because you weren't able to hit a shot a few weeks ago doesn't mean you can't hit that shot today. Or just because you could only kick waist high a month ago doesn't mean you can't kick chest high today. Instead of focusing on what we can't do we need to focus on incremental improvement.

Physical improvement, like anything else, is a step by step process. When you keep at it and focus on where you want to be, little by little, your mind and body will take you there. Keep in mind that the level of your game is in direct proportion to the amount of time you can invest in it. In other words, don't program yourself to think you're not good at a sport because you don't play at the same level as your sports idol. Your sports idol became good through practice and so will you. Leave the comparisons for how much improvement you are making, not to how much better (or worse) someone is than you.

Two Mental Factors

Athletic success requires two critical mental factors. The first is physical relaxation. The second is mental concentration or focus. Mastering these two will skyrocket your performance.

Take a look at this typical example. The first guy in your group tees off and hits it 250 yards. You watch it fly perfectly and fall right in the middle, a chip shot to the green. Now it's your turn and what do you do? You think to yourself "Wow he really hit that one!" and your hands get tight, your arms get tight and you hit the ball with all your might, and it dribbles off the tee. Why did that happen? You made two giant mental mistakes. You tightened up instead of relaxing and you focused on what the other guy did rather than your own game.

So how can you correct these mistakes? How can you learn physical relaxation and mental concentration? You need to do what the professionals do - you need to program yourself for success.

After you learn the basics of the game all the movements you make in sports are done at a subconscious level. This is true for everything we do in life. For example, when you drive you don't think about it, you just drive. When you started driving it wasn't this way at all. You had to think about everything at a conscious level. You had to adjust the mirrors, decide how to push the gas pedal and if you had a clutch, wow, that was a real challenge. But little by little you became better and better and now you drive subconsciously. You can be driving down the road with a cup of coffee in one hand while talking to your friend in the passenger's seat and if a car pulls out in front of you your foot goes to hit the breaks automatically. That's a subconscious stimulus response reaction. You could actually be riding in your friend's car in the passenger seat when a car pulls out in front of you and what will happen? Your foot hits the carpet with the same stimulus response reaction even though you know consciously that it won't stop the car.

In order to become good at a sport you need to teach your body the correct stimulus response reaction for each key area of your game. That way you can relax and let your body do the work it needs to do to make you successful. That's the reason for practice, to make the body's performance "automatic". But in order to have useful automatic performance the practice must be with correct form and that's why a coach is so important.

Automatic performance can be aided by hypnosis to help you see, or visualize yourself performing correctly. In order to do this you need to remember a time when you performed extremely well, a time when you felt "in the zone" or at least near to it. Then, using all of your senses you need to be able to describe how your mind feels, what you see, what you hear, how your body feels. This may appear as confident, strong, relaxed, focused, perfect concentration or even smooth, depending on your sport.

Once you have discovered the place where you perform at your best you can then use hypnosis to learn how to relax and bring it up automatically. Here's how. Put yourself in a relaxed state. Then visualize the time when you performed extremely well. Use an anchor, such as making an "O" with your thumb and forefinger or pressing the inside of your elbow with your forefinger and give yourself an audio trigger such as saying "yes". Repeat this process several times. The next time you practice physically or compete, use this combination of a physical anchor and an audio trigger to put yourself in the zone. You may be amazed at your level of performance.

If you are one of the many people that have difficulty with visualization, or need help in creating an anchor or trigger that works for you, see a hypnotist who can work as your visualization coach. A professional hypnotist can help you learn how to use visualization to improve every aspect of your game.

So there you have it. Get a coach, practice, set a goal, get feedback and learn the mental game. Five easy steps towards a lifetime of sports improvement and enjoyment. If you need help with the mental game look for a professional hypnotist that has a background in sports. No matter what sport they are proficient at they can use their athletic experience to help you use hypnosis to improve your game too.
