Staying Hydrated
Having a properly hydrated body is essential to our health. Our bodies are made up of 75% water. There is no easy formula that breaks down exactly what everyone needs in the way of hydration. One practice that is not scientifically backed is the 8 ounce/8 times a day approach. Although not scientific it is easy to remember. The best way to find out what your body needs is to consult your doctor. Thirst is an easy means of discovering that you are dehydrated but once you become thirsty, your body is already dehydrated. The key is avoiding dehydration. Not getting enough water? You're not alone; many people fail to drink enough fluid throughout the day.

The level of activity you partake in also plays a role in the amount of fluid your body needs. If you work outdoors, or are constantly on the move your body will require a bit more fluid than someone sitting at a desk all day. This does not mean that less activity means that you are not susceptible to dehydration. Persons should drink enough water/fluid to avoid feeling thirsty.
Fluids can be found not only in what we drink but also in the foods we eat. Choosing your snacks and meals appropriate can increase your hydration even if you are not drinking fluids all day. Look for healthy alternatives. Fruits will do more for your health than a candy bar or bag of chips. Making smarter choices will increase your overall health along with helping you maintain good hydration.
Preventing dehydration is easy. It will require that habits are formed and that we put forth the effort.
1. Keep a water bottle handy (Glass is better than Plastic)
2. Avoid caffeinated beverages (creates water loss)
3. When working outside drink more frequently
4. Eat foods that are high in water content

6. Keep count of water intake
